Our Disney Experience with Food Allergies and Gluten Free

Kathy Thornburg

Disney is a magical experience but it can be overwhelming- especially if you have dietary restrictions and food allergies. I've got to say to that Disney is very food allergy aware and it's clear that the staff there have been trained and know what to do to provide you with a safe and enjoyable dining experience. If you have the time and budget for it, I hear the character dining experiences are wonderful and super special. For us, we kept it low key and chose fast dining places so we could get back to the rides (life with kids!)

Food Spots at Disney World and Disney Springs (the ones WE visited)...
Casey's Corner
Cosmic Ray's Starlight Café
Pinocchio Village Haus
Backlot Express
Blaze Fast-Fired Pizza
The Daily Poutine

Ready to Pack Lunches Again?

Kathy Thornburg

Attention: This post contains affiliate links.

Packing lunches is a lot of fun and seeing them come home empty is even better! In my experiences over the years working in childcare settings (daycares, preschools, etc.) I have been shocked by the large number of children who come to school with a soft shell lunchbox filled with throw away plastic bags filled with squished sandwiches and broken chips. There's such a better way to provide a lunch that survives the trip to school, cuts down on the cost of throw away packing items, and is better for the environment. The answer is to invest in reusable lunch packing products like hard shell washable containers and fabric velcro washable bags.

The truth husband generally packs the lunches around here. He often forgets to send a fork or spoon, but other than that, he's pretty good at it. I've been watching EasyLunchboxes on Instagram like a true stalker for quite some time now, but never took the plunge in purchasing some for myself. To me, they appeared to be just like the containers you can buy in bulk at the grocery store, and I couldn't see what make them special or set them apart. However, their huge number of dedicated fans and their amazing sales on has always made me curious as to what I was missing out on in the lunch packing world.

In preparing for an upcoming event (Lunchbox Makeover! Check it out HERE on Facebook!) EasyLunchboxes decided to donate SO MANY of their products! I was floored and so excited to share their containers with other families. Plus, they were sending some for me to try out as well. Double win!

I will that I have my hands on them, they are very different than ones I've seen in stores. Here are a few things I'm really liking so far...

  • Lid color choices
  • Very sturdy (slightly more rigid than others)
  • Lids are secure
  • Easy for children to open
  • Dip containers available for sauces, dressings, etc.
  • Stackable in the fridge without falling over

Have EasyLunchboxes (or waiting for your order to arrive?) and need some ideas of what to pack? Check out my YouTube video (above) with 5 meal ideas for your family, and let me know in the comments below what you love to pack for lunch. Happy lunch packing to you!

Love With Food- Subscription Box Service with a Gluten Free Option

Kathy Thornburg

There's something very exciting about subscription boxes. They seem to have ones available for just about every hobby or need you could imagine. It's like a present you give yourself every month! Surely I'm not the only person who feels like a kid on Christmas when that FedEx man brings you a package you forgot was on it's way.

I'll be honest, I've never had one of these box subscriptions before. Mostly because I am one of the thriftiest (ok...cheapest) people I know. I mean...I still have a flip phone to save a few $$$ a month.

Enjoy Life Foods and Love With Food recently sent me a box and boy was it fun to go through. All gluten free and top 8 free goodies that my kids were begging to rip open and devour.

So is Love With Food right for your family? Maybe! It all depends. If you have no dietary restrictions, it looks fabulous! You'll get a lot of quality foods to try and might find your new favorite brand to keep on stock. If you only avoid food items containing gluten, they have a gluten free box option that would be a perfect fit. Avoiding nuts, dairy, or other allergens? This might not be the service for you. You can't customize your box to avoid a certain ingredient at this time.  I really appreciate Love With Food for taking the time to kindly respond to my questions. I totally understand that they don't have the ability right now to offer so many different customized boxes.

If you are interested in trying out Love With Food, you can try it for just a month, 3 months, 6 months, or for a whole year. The bigger plan you buy, the cheaper your monthly box.

Head to Love With Food using my referral link HERE to start your subscription today!

Here's a peek at what came in our box so you can get an idea of what they are like....

15 fans can win a free box by tagging @enjoylifefoods and using #EatFreeLove, telling Enjoy Life how they’re celebrating Celiac Awareness Month. Limited to US only and must enter by May 31st at 11:59pm PST.

Vermont Nut Free Chocolates

Kathy Thornburg

Valentine's Day is coming up! The stores are filling their aisles with Valentine themed products and especially...CHOCOLATE. I am a big fan of chocolate, but when food allergies entered our family, we stopped eating a lot of these special treats because of nut warnings. As my children are getting older, simply ignoring those store aisles doesn't seem to cut it. If I want to give my children a safe chocolate treat, I need to make it myself at home or order from a nut safe company. I keep hearing people suggest Vermont Nut Free Chocolates so it's time for me to try them for myself to see if they are as good as I've been told.
